Whether the structure of cold stamping die design is reasonable plays a key role in the success of the production of precision hardware. Even a group of simple die components can reach dozens, so their accuracy cannot be underestimated in the design.
At the beginning of design, what kind of mold structure should be selected? Is it the front mold structure (that is, the female mold is installed on the lower mold base)? Or the reverse (reverse) mold structure (i.e. the punch installed on the lower mold base)? Or choose single process mold structure? Or should we choose composite mold structure? This is a topic worthy of in-depth discussion before every mold worker. This is a great article.
Structural characteristics of front-mounted mold
The structural feature of the front mold is that the concave mold is installed on the lower mold base. Therefore, the workpiece or scrap can easily fall into the scrap hole on the punching table, whether it is used for workpiece dropping, punching or other processes.
Therefore, it is not necessary to consider the flow of workpiece or scrap when designing the main mold. This leads to a very simple and practical tool structure.
Advantages of forward assembly die structure
(1) Because of the simple structure of the mold, the mold manufacturing cycle can be shortened, which is conducive to the development of new products.
(2) It is more convenient to use and maintain.
(3) It is easier to install and adjust the clearance of the male and female die (compared with the reverse die).
(4) The mold manufacturing cost is low, which is conducive to improving the economic benefits of enterprises.
(5) Because the compression force always exists during the whole stretching process, it is suitable for stretching non-rotating body parts.
Disadvantages of forward mold structure
(1) As the workpiece or scrap is accumulated in the die hole, the group lift in the die hole increases. Therefore, the wall thickness of concave surface must be increased to improve its strength.
(2) Because the workpiece or scrap is piled up in the die hole, the die edge must be processed with the drop slope. In some cases, the reverse hole (discharge hole) of the die edge must be processed, which extends the cycle time of the die and increases the processing cost of the die.
Selection principle of positive mold structure
To sum up, we can see that the design principle we should follow when designing the stamping die is to give priority to the positive die structure. Only when the front-mounted mold structure can meet the technical requirements of the workpiece can other forms of mold structure be considered.
